2021 CHARDONNAY

Despite the high disease pressure in the vineyard, the Chardonnay fruit was extremely clean and of high quality, but bunch size down by 40% contributing to more elegant fruit profile. 2021 ATKINS-DAVIS CHARDONNAY

SINGLE BARREL HOME BLOCK

Owners/ Vignerons son Sebastian has been making a barrel of wine since the age of 8. In year 3 of making wine, Sebastian wanted to understand the key differences between making red and white wine. This single barrel Home Block chardonnay displays white stone fruits and citrus. It is complex and lingers on the back palate. Pairs perfectly with shark bay blue swimmer crab & scallops

2019 SINGLE BARREL CHARDONNAY

MELBA BLOCK

The one year old French pack barrel used to make this special Chardonnay is immediately evident by the deeper yellow colour of the wine. From first smell, you can tell this wine has had some great oak infusion and will appeal to those lovers of traditional oaky and malo-chardonnays. While those elements are present, they are not so intense to over power this Chardonnays fruit characters, with melon and lime driving forward. First impressions are wow! Even colder than it should be drunk, this Chardonnay has a gorgeous palette and a beautiful soft finish that lingers well after finishing the sip. The front palette receives a lovely honeycomb, with soft citrus and pineapple without any tartness. Let this warm up to about 12 degrees or even warmer and you really see the most amazing results, with first impression flavours remaining, yet becoming more velvety. This is why we chose to launch this wine to our club members paired with our chef Sam’s delightful lobster bisque. With the oak foundation and malolactic fermentation, this Chardonnay will become more silky and “buttery” with age. Will reward with further cellaring. Only 270 bottles made.

2020 SOUZÀO

NAGAMBIE

The initial nose is very representative of the Iberian varietals with a savory and slightly spicy richness about it. Although fully fermented with no residual sugars, the strong fruit characters deliver perceived sweetness, yet herbaceous. The driving fruit character is strawberry, something not often found in “bigger” reds, followed by some lovely softer blackberry notes. Ageing in only old French oak has allowed this wine to truly express its fruit nature, which makes it a lovely wine to pair with so many different foods from spicy through to many deserts.

VINEYARD

The Shelmerdine Estate, located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Situated at 400m above sea level, the Souzão was grafted on merlot vines in 2016 on textured sandy red clay loams over free draining soil east to west facing.

WINEMAKING

100% hand picked Souzão in March 2020. Inoculated & fermented over a 2 week period. Matured in a combination of aged french oak hogs heads over 11 months. Bottled 10 February 2021.

This Pinot is drinking perfectly now, but will certainly develop with careful cellaring. (only 285 bottles made)

2019 SINGLE BARREL PINOT

HOME BLOCK

On pouring a glass of this unique Pinot noir you would not be criticised for announcing “that’s not a Pinot” when judging by its colour alone. The nose displays lovely fruit characters, with the French oak coming through beautifully. Matured in a one year old French Barrique (225L) barrel, this Pinot has that aroma you just want to keep taking in and enjoying, with the initial taste being exquisite. Dark cherries rule the roost with an oaky softness that helps round the earthy characters that are so predominant in the Home Block Pinot Noir fruits DNA. Primary flavours don’t disappear either, they continue to interest and excite the mouth minutes after taking a sip, particularly on the front and mid palette. A second sip delivers even more, primarily cherry flavours, followed by a rich blood plum character. Again, lingering and continuing to give more and more. This Pinot is drinking perfectly now, but will certainly develop with careful cellaring. (only 285 bottles made)
