2020 PINOT NOIR ROSÈ

MELBA BLOCK

100% Pinot Noir. Savoury & Dry with a strawberry nose & delightful finish.The 2020 Rosé is crafted using 100% Pinot Noir grapes from our Melba Block. Keeping with our preferred french-style of Rosé, the subtlety of the strawberry nose is balanced beautifully with a savoury palate and a bright finish. This elegant Rosé will drink beautifully during the warmer months.

VINEYARD

Situated at 150m above sea level, planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba block vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested. Clones – 114, 115, MV6

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked on 17 March 2020. Combination of foot stomping and destemming and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Matured in stainless tank over 5 months. 100% malolactic fermentation and sugar dry. 107 doz bottled 13 August 2020. Unfined and unfiltered.

2020 CHARDONNAY

HOME BLOCK

The nose displays soft melon and mineral tones. Citrus characters when fridge temperature, but once warmed to the recommended 10-12 degrees, this wine delivers lychee and guava, with the citrus remaining as a more subtle background character. On the mid palate, there is a slight tart mineral character, yet balanced by the softness from the malolactic fermentation. Using only French oak with approximately 20% new, there is a lovely woody influence that does not overpower the fresh fruit characters, but rather helps balance into a lovely easy drinking Chardonnay. Enjoyed on its own all year round or accompanying a vast number of foods from vegetable dishes, seafood and chicken through to cheese and cold meats.

VINEYARD

Steels Gate Vineyard, Chardonnay block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Chardonnay was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, south-west facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked on 25th March 2020. Whole bunch pressed using a half-ton hydraulic basket press, with overnight juice settling. Inoculated and matured in 20% new oak. Matured on full ferment lees for 10 months. Bottled 01 Feb 2021. Unfined and unfiltered.

2020 RIESLING

NAGAMBIE VINEYARD

2020 was a very cool and wet year – perfect for Riesling! Fresh and lively; Stone fruits, lime and citrus notes with a fresh clean finish. Pairs perfectly with oysters.

VINEYARD

The Shelmerdine Estate, located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Riesling was planted in 2001 on textured sandy red clay loams over free draining soil. East to west facing.

WINEMAKING

100% hand picked Riesling in Mar 2020. De-stemmed and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak and stainless tank.

2020 PINOT NOIR

HOME BLOCK

2020 was an extremely wet and cold year. If the pandemic wasn’t enough, we lost 50% of fruit across both vineyards due to hail and stuck cap. With the limited fruit, we decided to go back to our beginnings and make a single vineyard Pinot Noir from our home block. It has all the usual cherry and strawberry characteristics (reminiscent of our 2017 Pinot Noir), forest floor complexity, yet far more delicate.

VINEYARD

Home Block Vineyard, Pinot Noir block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Pinot Noir was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, east facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked on April 20th 2020. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques & hogs heads (20% new). Made with 20% whole bunches and 10% Carbonic maceration. Hand bottled by gravity, without fining or filtration on 2nd February 2021. 189 dozen produced.

2020 Atkins-Davis

Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz

Owners/ Vignerons son Sebastian has been making a barrel of wine since the age of 8. In year 2 of making wine, Sebastian wanted to understand what would happen if you co-fermented Cabernet and Shiraz together. This single barrel Melba Block co-fermented Cabernet and Shiraz (8%) is medium bodied in weight. Displays notes of blackcurrants and cedar, with gentle tannin and a savoury finish.

WINEMAKING

100% Hand picked Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz (8%) on 10 Apr 2020. De-stemmed and fermented in a single french oak barrel for 11 months. Bottled 05 May 2020

2020 SOUZÀO

NAGAMBIE

The initial nose is very representative of the Iberian varietals with a savory and slightly spicy richness about it. Although fully fermented with no residual sugars, the strong fruit characters deliver perceived sweetness, yet herbaceous. The driving fruit character is strawberry, something not often found in “bigger” reds, followed by some lovely softer blackberry notes. Ageing in only old French oak has allowed this wine to truly express its fruit nature, which makes it a lovely wine to pair with so many different foods from spicy through to many deserts.

VINEYARD

The Shelmerdine Estate, located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Situated at 400m above sea level, the Souzão was grafted on merlot vines in 2016 on textured sandy red clay loams over free draining soil east to west facing.

WINEMAKING

100% hand picked Souzão in March 2020. Inoculated & fermented over a 2 week period. Matured in a combination of aged french oak hogs heads over 11 months. Bottled 10 February 2021.
