2018 BLANC DE BLANCS

HOME BLOCK

The wet December, followed by a hot summer made for some beautiful fruit complexity and natural acidity. 100% hand picked Chardonnay on 18 February 2018. Delightfully fresh, with notes of citrus on the palate. Method-Traditionnelle disgorged August 2021 with a dosage of 3.5g/l. Perfect with seafood or that special celebration

VINEYARD

Steels Gate Vineyard, Chardonnay block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Chardonnay was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, south-west facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked Chardonnay on 18 February 2018 and chilled in the cool room overnight. Part whole bunch and part de-stemmed. Hydraulic basket pressed to 250 bar and repeated 3 times to ensure gentle extraction of juice. 80% free run juice. Chardonnay was inoculated 3 days later with a 14 day fermentation period. Juice was placed in the cool room to control ferment temperatures. Disgorged in August 2021 with a dosage of 3.5g/l

2018 CHARDONNAY

MELBA BLOCK

The 2018 Chardonnay displays notes of citrus and stone fruit. Not overpowered by oak or malo, this Chardonnay exhibits elegant fruit such as melon, pineapple & citrus. It’s soft and refined, this well balanced Chardonnay is perfect for all occasions.

VINEYARD

Situated at 150m above sea level, planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba block vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested.

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked on 25 February 2018. Combination of whole bunch and destemming and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Wild yeast fermentation. Matured in a mixture of seasoned french oak barriques (20% new) and 100% malolactic fermentation. Matured on full ferment lees for 9 months. Bottled 6 December 2018. Unfined and unfiltered.

2018 PINOT NOIR

ESTATE BLEND

Medium bodied in style, the nose displays sour dark cherry and dark plums. Well balanced with both power and finesse. Drinking incredibly well, but will reward with cellaring.

VINEYARD

Blend of our two estates. 75% Home Block, 25% Melba Block

Home Block Vineyard, Pinot Noir block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Pinot Noir was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, east facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked on 5 March 2018. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques & hogs heads, with wild malolactic fermentation. Made with 20% whole bunches and a few other secret, “left-field” techniques, Hand bottled by gravity, without fining or filtration on 6 December 2018.

2018 CABERNET SAUVIGNON

NAGAMBIE VINEYARD

Stunning dark purple colour lives up to expectation with well-rounded dark cherries, blackberry and mulberry filling the palate.

VINEYARD

The shelmerdine estate, located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Cabernet was planted in 1999 on textured sandy red clay loams over free draining soil. East to west facing.

WINEMAKING

100% machine harvested Cabernet Sauvignon on 16 Mar 2018. De-stemmed (10% whole bunch). Fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak barrels (hogs-heads)

2018 CABERNETs

MELBA BLOCK

This medium bodied Cabernet blend displays bright classic flavours of dark cherries and plum, with an undertone of mandarin. Gorgeous cassis with hints of cedar on the nose, this estate blend has vibrant acidity and will reward with careful cellaring.

VINEYARD

Situated at 150m above sea level, planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba block vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested.

WINEMAKING

100% Hand picked Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc (19%) on 21 Mar 2018. Inoculated & Co-fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak barrels (hogs-heads) for 12 months. Bottled in March 2019.

2018 SHIRAZ

YARRA VALLEY

Excellent cool climate Shiraz in a Syrah style with dusty tannins and a savoury finish. Beautiful floral violet aromas, cassius, red plum. Very fresh on the palate, balanced and delicious blend of dark cherries, blackberry fruit with toasty oak and a touch of spice.

VINEYARD

Located in the picturesque Yarra Valley region. Situated at 150m above sea level, the Shiraz vines were planted in the early 1990’s. 100% cane pruned to insure best quality fruit is grown and hand-harvested.

WINEMAKING

100% hand picked Shiraz. Matured on lees in seasoned French oak hogsheads for 10 months. Bottled in November 2018 and released in March 2019. Reflective of the season, the wet December followed by warm days and cool nights have resulted in production of a more finessed wine reminiscent of a syrah. 13.0% alc / 8.0 std drinks. 2018 SHIRAZ

MELBA BLOCK

This excellent cool climate ‘syrah style’ wine, is highly aromatic and is set to enhance any evening or dinner party. Gorgeous deep plum and dark cherries are displayed, stylistically fruit driven with lovely soft tannin. Pairs beautifully with barbecued lamb or rich dark chocolate for dessert.

100% Hand picked Shiraz on 19 Mar 2018. De-stemmed (10% whole bunch). Fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak barrels (20% new hogs-heads) for 12 months. Transferred in to stainless tank for a month, prior to bottling in May 2019.
