2021 PINOT NOIR ROSÈ

MELBA BLOCK

The 2021 Rosé is crafted using 100% Pinot Noir grapes from our Melba Block. This year we upgraded from a basket to a vacuum bladder press. Being a more delicate process, we have found that this rosé has retained more aromatics and fruit character. Keeping with our preferred french-style of rosé, the subtlety of the strawberry nose is balanced beautifully with a mineral and savoury palate, yet bright finish. This elegant rosé will drink beautifully during the warmer months. Perfect for any occasion

VINEYARD

Situated at 150m above sea level, planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba block vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested. Clones – 114, 115, MV6

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked on 03 March 2021. Chilled overnight and whole bunch vacuum bladder pressed. Matured in a stainless tank over 5 months. 100% malolactic fermentation and sugar dry. Being a cool summer, we saw the fermentation take place over a two week period. Temperatures controlled to ensure a mid 20 degree ferment. 165 doz bottled 18 August 2021. 2021 CHARDONNAY

HOME BLOCK

2021 saw cooler and wet conditions. Despite the high disease pressure in the vineyard, the Chardonnay fruit was extremely clean and of high quality, but bunch size down by 40% contributing to more elegant fruit profile. Similar to the 2020 vintage, the nose displays soft melon tones with a smooth and lingering finish. 75% Malolactic fermentation and 8 months in French oak. This is our first Chardonnay using our vacuum press, resulting in increased aromatics and overall a more elegant approach.

VINEYARD

Steels Gate Vineyard, Chardonnay block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Chardonnay was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, south-west facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

WINEMAKING

00% handpicked on 16th March 2021. Whole bunch pressed using vacuum press, with overnight juice settling. Inoculated and matured in 20% new oak. Matured on full ferment lees for 8 months. Bottled 08 Dec 2021. Unfined and unfiltered.

2021 ATKINS-DAVIS CHARDONNAY

SINGLE BARREL HOME BLOCK

Owners/ Vignerons son Sebastian has been making a barrel of wine since the age of 8. In year 3 of making wine, Sebastian wanted to understand the key differences between making red and white wine. This single barrel Home Block chardonnay displays white stone fruits and citrus. It is complex and lingers on the back palate. Pairs perfectly with shark bay blue swimmer crab & scallops

2021 was an idyllic season for our cool-climate Pinot Noir. Ripe red cherries and wild strawberries are prominent on the nose and palate, with a trailing subtle forest floor finish. Delicate tannin and long finish

Home Block Vineyard, Pinot Noir block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Pinot Noir was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, east facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

WINEMAKING

100% handpicked on 16 March 2021. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques & hogs heads (20% new). Made with 20% whole bunches and 5% Carbonic maceration. Hand bottled by gravity, without fining or filtration on 2nd February 2021. 189 dozen produced.
