Get ready for 5 June 2020 – with safety in mind, it’s time to wine!

Steels Gate Cellar Door and Restaurant has been closed since March and we’re excited to say, that in line with the Victorian Government requirements relating to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be opening our doors once again from Friday 5 June 2020.

To ensure the health and safety of our staff and guests, we have certain restrictions in place including:

  • Limited numbers in our indoor spaces.
  • Sanitiser station on entry and clearly marked entry and exit points.
  • Lunch service will be across two sittings at 11.30 am and 1.30 pm and will include a limited 2 course menu at $50 pp.
  • Afternoon bookings for fromage, charcuterie and wine experiences from 3.30 pm.
  • This structure allows us to provide the best service and timing to ensure we can clean down the restaurant and facilities between each service.

Reservations for our restaurant are essential and unfortunately for the time being we will not be able to facilitate bench tastings.

Introducing Steels Gate Wines newest/youngest wine maker – Sebastian
Sebastian Atkins-Davis, this is a name you need to remember, for one day we’ve no doubt his wine will be featured in Wine State, Halliday’s Wine Companion, Robert Parker and beyond.  We are so excited to offer to our Wine Club family the opportunity to buy in to Seb’s journey with his very first varietal – 2019 Merlot.  At just nine years old, Seb has been involved in all facets of the wine growing, science and even label design – a truly amazing and ambitious young man, he has put so much into this wine with the guiding hand of his dad’s and this is evident in this amazing wine. 

This new Atkins-Davis label offering is only available to our Wine Club members and with only 380 bottles produced, is sure to sell out quickly.

The Steels Gate story centres on winemakers Brad Atkins and Matthew Davis who have been producing wine from their ‘Home Block’ at the very top of Steels Creek in the Yarra Valley since 2010.

Brad and Matt have travelled and lived overseas and returned to Australia in 2014 to focus on wine-making full time.  They purchased the land over at Dixons Creek which is now the Steels Gate Cellar Door and Restaurant fondly referred to amongst the family as the ‘Melba Block’.

Surrounding themselves with great people, they are building a boutique destination in the Yarra Valley that is quickly developing a reputation for great wine, food and service.

Brad and Matt don’t rest on their laurels and instead strive to evolve their offerings by forming strategic partnerships and extending their market reach.

The next generation is already making their mark with eight year old Sebastian due to release his first Merlot in 2020.
