What you will find in our event information, is we break down for you everything we can do for you and include costs or links to providers.  We don’t believe in forcing our guests into all-inclusive packages as we prefer to tailor quotes to your needs – ensuring you are not paying for services or items you don’t need to.  We are happy to put a quote together with you anytime.


Steels Gate Cellar Door and Restaurant is located in the picturesque Yarra Valley.  More specifically we are in Dixons Creek and our views stretch back down the valley toward Yarra Glen.

We have loads of outdoor spaces for ceremonies, under trees, next to vines (but not too close, see T&C’s), on our beautiful open deck, and perfect for photography is the country track that meanders along the chardonnay vines and down towards the back of the property.

Dining areas overview:

The set up of our dining areas is thoughtful and clever, giving so many options depending on the size of your group, we have our beautiful private tasting room perfect for a small intimate group to have their own space.  We have our stunning high-ceiling restaurant which opens out on our newly renovated deck, which is undercover (and therefore weather-proof).  The design of the undercover deck and our bi-fold doors, means you can have a sit down undercover function for a large group.  We also have our side deck which is open-air and perfect for a long table.  Down on the grass area in front of our cellar door are four beautiful 12-seat picnic tables and room for picnic blankets ,as well as our designer fire-pit.

Music, lights, camera, ACTION!!

We have brilliant SONOS speakers in our private dining room, the main dining room and out on our deck area.  The music on all three systems can be synced or can play separate playlists.  Simply create a list on Spotify and send us the link and we can do the rest.  If live music is your preference, we have a couple of fabulous live performers that we can provide contact details for you.


The lighting in our dining areas is well planned and separate areas can be isolated.  If you wish to set up additional lighting (such as twinkling lights or candles), you will need to talk to us about set up and access times. 

Camera (we really mean photography):

We can recommend a number of fantastic photographers who understand how to maximise on the landscape and environment that is so unique to the Yarra Valley. No matter the weather or time of day, they will capture the most beautiful and true memories of your day.

At Steels Gate Wines, we have a number of fabulous tour operators that also specialise in the transport and logistic requirements for wedding groups, be it luxury cars or large coaches, let us know your requirements and we will obtain a quote on your behalf.


It’s hard to go past Flowers of Yarra Glen.  Allie has decades of experience and can make the most stunning arrangements for bouquets, headbands, buttonholes, table-centrepieces and so much more.

With all of the above, we recommend our preferred suppliers for their quality, and also because they know our business, they know our setting, so when it comes to meeting your needs, they can offer you great guidance in terms of what will work well at our venue. 

If however, you would like to engage your own suppliers (be it flowers, lighting, DJ/Band, cake etc, please ensure they contact our venue to arrange access and delivery/set up.

We pride ourselves in welcoming couples to be part of our family, so we take care of you and your family the way we would our own.  Your wedding day is special to us, we feel honoured that you are choosing our beautiful venue which will be the backdrop to memories that last a lifetime.

Included in our information is a number of options – you’ll find minimum and maximum numbers for each area and we’ve even included terms and conditions at the end.  We believe when you are planning such an important event, there should be no surprises (for you or for us!).

Outdoor Ceremony – $300

Steels Gate Cellar Door at our Dixons Creek Melba Block has endless options for a private area to celebrate your nuptials.  The package includes seating for 20 (including 2 seats and a small table for signing of the register).  We take great care and pride in our lawns and gardens to ensure they are stunning for your special day.  You will have private use of the space for 2 hours.  Additional seating can be hired (cost upon application).  There is no guest number requirements for your ceremony.


The minimum numbers and spends below are for sole use of the particular area you are utilising.  They do not however include sole-use of the entire venue. 

Private Dining Room

Located just off our cellar door area, this dining room is sophisticated and private.  The set up for this room is a large square high-top table that can seat up to 12 people.  Minimum spend $1000.00

Restaurant Dining Room

Polished floor boards, wooden panelled ceiling and amazing views, give this space a natural light and air.  The room can be set in multiple configurations for up to 40 guests.  Please note, if you require round tables, these need to hired separately. Minimum spend $3500.00

Front Deck

This stunning space was recently renovated and extended.  With underfloor insulation, automated blinds and roof that can be open to allow the light and sun in, or closed to keep the weather out.  This space can seat groups of up to 30 people.  Bifold doors into the restaurant can be opened up to increase the space for a larger group of up to 70 guests. Minimum spend for Front Deck only $3,000.00. Minimum spend for Restaurant and Front Deck combined $6,000.00

Side Deck (uncovered)

The side deck is perfect for one long table of up to 20 guests.  Please note, the side decking does not have roof or blinds and therefore is weather-dependant. Minimum spend $1800.00

Picnic tables

For a more relaxed and casual event, situated on the lawn in front of cellar door, we have four 12-seater timber picnic tables with large counter-lever black umbrellas.  We also have picnic blankets and a beautiful bespoke fire-pit by designer…..  Minimum spend for outdoor area $3000.00

Minimum spend for entire venue including outdoor areas and to close our cellar door bench to external tastings: $10,000.00


Canapé Package 2 hours $45 per person Chefs’ selection of six canapés (3 hot and 3 cold) Examples include: Lamb croquettes with marjoram mayonnaise, Smoked salmon dill and cream cheese on cucumber, Papadum peanut masala, Witlof beetroot and hazelnuts with smoked feta. Pork belly bites with hoisin sauce Thinking seafood? Let us know, we’ll check market prices and come back to you with additional costs.

Three course (alternative drop entrée, main course and dessert). $85 per person 

Cakeage For those celebrating special occasions and bringing in their own cake, our chef will cut and platter your cake at a cost of $2.50 per person.

Beverage packages Our wine packages start at $40 per person for the first two hours. Every hour thereafter is $20 per person.

Wines included in the package can be selected from our current tasting list (depending on availability, not all wines are on our tasting list, particularly those that are limited in stock or on back-vintage). Packages also include local beers, ciders and soft drinks. Alternatively you can nominate a bar tab and our staff will manage this with you on the day
