TASTING NOTES

Bastardo originated in the Jura region of Eastern France, where it is known as Trousseau. Much more widely grown in Portugal under various names including Bastardo. In the Douro region it is used in Port blends or in red wines either as a varietal or in blends. Our Bastardo has full fruit intensity with tones of blackberry and mulberry. Medium body in comparison to a Pinot Noir with a little more grunge.

WINEMAKING

100% hand picked Bastardo on 6 Mar 2019. Innoculated & fermented in open fermentation pots and matured in a combination of aged french oak. Bottled in March 2020.

Nagambie

The Shelmerdine Estate is located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Situated at 400m above sea level, the Bastardo was grafted on merlot vines in 2016 on textured sandy red clay loams over free draining soil east to west facing.
