Our cool, sheltered vineyard with its 40+ year old dry-grown vines coped extremely well, giving us an amazing sparkling that displays a crisp dry, creamy textured, fine-bead & lingering beeswax finish.

Steels Gate Vineyard, Chardonnay block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Chardonnay was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, south-west facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

100% handpicked on 28 February 2017. De-stemmed and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Fermented and matured in stainless tank. Method-Traditionelle, disgorged on 31 Jan 2020 with a dosage of 5g/l.

White Wine

The 2018 Chardonnay displays notes of citrus and stone fruit. Not overpowered by oak or malo, this Chardonnay exhibits elegant fruit such as melons, pineapple & citrus. It’s soft and refined, this well balanced Chardonnay is perfect for all occasions.

Situated at 150m above sea level, planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba block vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested.

100% handpicked on 25 February 2018. Combination of whole bunch and destemming and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Wild yeast fermentation. Matured in a mixture of seasoned frenchoak barriques (20% new) and 100% malolactic fermentation. Matured on full ferment lees for 9 months. Bottled 6 December 2018. Unfined and unfiltered.

Elegant fruits displayed on the palate with understated nectarine and white peaches developing. A hint of spice and refined mineral notes. Lovely freshness and a long finish. Definitely one to keep for the long haul!

Eloquent and fragrant. Notes of ripe pears and mandarin, with a lemon sorbet pallet.

100% hand picked Riesling on 6 Mar 2019. De-stemmed and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Fermented and  matured in a combination of aged french oak and stainless tank.

Red Wine

Graciano is an aromatic red wine grape variety that is prized for the rich colour and flavour it gives. There’s a herbaceous characteristic sparking woody/oily herbs on the nose and palate such as thyme or rosemary.

The Shelmerdine Estate, located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Situated at 400m above sea level, the Graciano was grafted on merlot vines in 2016 on textured sandy red clay loams over free draining soil east to west facing.

100% hand picked Graciano on 27 Mar 2019. De-stemmed and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak. Bottled in March 2020.

Bastardo originated in the Jura region of Eastern France, where itis known as Trousseau. Much more widely grown in Portugal
under various names including Bastardo. In the Douro region it is used in Port blends or in red wines either as a varietal or in blends. Our Bastardo has full fruit intensity with tones of blackberry and mulberry. Medium body in comparison to a Pinot Noir with a little more grunge.

100% hand picked Bastardo on 6 Mar 2019. De-stemmed and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak. Bottled in March 2020.

This wine demonstrates a vibrant nose of black cherries and strawberries,. The palate is delicate and fine, with an exotic array of red and black fruits intermixed. This Pinot Noir has elegance, power and finesse. The red fruit complexity from the Melba Block helps to balance out the earthiness from the Home Block fruit.

Home Block Vineyard, Pinot Noir block. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Pinot Noir was planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, east facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated and hand nurtured. Surrounded by National Park.

100% handpicked in March 2019. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques & hogs heads (20% new). Made with 20% whole bunches and 10% Carbonic maceration. Hand bottled by gravity, without fining or filtration on 28th January 2020. 4500 bottles produced.

100% handpicked on 5 March 2018. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques & hogs heads, with wild malolactic fermentation. Made with 20% whole bunches and a few other secret, “left-field” techniques, Hand bottled by gravity, without fining or filtration on 6 December 2018

Stunning dark purple colour lives up to  expectation with well-rounded dark cherries, blackberry and mulberry filling the palate.

The shelmerdine estate, located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Situated at 230m above sea level, the Cabernet was planted in 1999 on textured sandy red clay loams over free draining soil. East to west facing.

100% machine harvested Cabernet Sauvignon on 16 Mar 2018. De-stemmed and pressed (10% whole bunch), with overnight juice settling. Fermented and matured in a combination of aged french oak barrels (hogs-heads)

This wine is all about the subtle tannins. Beautiful bell pepper on the nose, full mid-palate of blackberry and mulberry, smooth tannins and medium body with a hint of mocha to finish.

Located in the picturesque Yarra Valley region. Situated at 150m above sea level, the Cabernet vines were planted in the early 1990’s. 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand-harvested.

100% hand picked Cabernet Sauvignon. Matured on lees in seasoned French oak barriques for 12 months (20% new).

Excellent cool climate Shiraz in a Syrah style, with dusty tannins with a savoury finish. Beautiful floral violet aromas, cassius, red plum. Very fresh on the palate, balanced and delicious blend of dark cherries, blackberry fruit with toasty oak and a touch of spice.

Located in the picturesque Yarra Valley region. Situated at 150m above sea level, the Shiraz vines were planted in the early 1990’s. 100% cane pruned to  insure best quality fruit is grown and hand-harvested.

100% hand picked Shiraz. Matured on lees in seasoned French oak hogsheads for 10 months. Bottled in
November 2018 and released in March 2019. Reflective of the season, the wet December followed by warm days and cool nights have resulted in production of a more finessed wine reminiscent of a syrah.

With everything we love in a Christmas pudding recipe, there are so many stunning elements to this wine. As it opens up, there’s cinnamon, brown sugar, orange rind and ginger – all you need is the hidden threepence and you are set.

Ned Kelly country – These Muscat grapes were grown in North East Victoria, in the township of Glenrowen. Glenrowen’s reputation for full bodied reds, fragrant whites and renowned fortifies made it too irresistible not to make something special for our friends and family.

This delightful fortified is made using muscat grapes from Glenrowen. Fermented and aged in Punchon’s (500L) from a mixture of vintages ranging from 2006 – 2009. Bottled in late June 2020.

Steels Gate Home Block Vineyard
Situated at 230m above sea level was planted in the late 1970’s on an undulating slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely non irrigated and hand nurtured, surrounded by National Park. The vines are cared for by hand and the grapes carefully hand picked at the perfect harvest time. This 6+ acres comprises of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.
Steels Gate Melba Block Vineyard
Situated at 150m above sea level was planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested.
Nagambie Vineyard
Nagambie Vineyard is a partnership with a family estate located in the picturesque Nagambie region. Still cool climate, this region produces lovely medium bodies reds and some lovely Rieslings and other similar white varieties.
