Vineyard: Steels Gate Vineyard, Pinot Noir block. Situated at 230m above sea level, planted in the early 1980’s on an undulating, south-west facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated.

Winemaking: 100% handpicked 30 March 2012. 90% de-stemmed on top of 10% whole bunches. 2 day cold soak. Fermented with wild yeasts, with very gentle pumpovers when required. On skins for 2 weeks. Matured in seasoned French oak barriques with wild malolactic fermentation. Sulfured in September 2012, and left to mature on lees. Hand-bottled 01 March 2013 by gravity, without fining or filtration.

Tasting notes: A superb year for Pinot in the Yarra Valley. Bright crimson-purple in appearance, the perfume from this wine leaps out of the glass with an intense, vibrant nose of dark cherries, wild strawberries, orange peel, and spice. The palate has real richness and density, with an exotic array of red and black fruits intermixed with brambly, undergrowth characters and velvety tannins. A very complete Pinot with a balance of elegance, power, and poise.
