Vineyard: Steels Gate Vineyard, Chardonnay block. Situated at 230m above sea level, planted in the early 1980’s on a steep, north-east facing slope on friable grey loam soils. Completely unirrigated.
Winemaking: 100% handpicked on 01 April 2011. De-stemmed and pressed, with overnight juice settling. Fermented and matured in French oak barriques, 20% new. Sulfured immediately post-fermentation to preserve racy, citrus characters. Matured on full ferment lees with fortnightly lees stirring for 9 months. Bottled 09 January 2012.
Tasting notes: A pristine nose of citrus and nectarine, with complexing barrel ferment characteristics of grilled cashews and almond meal. The Palate is characterised by a beautiful balance between fruit, cleansing acidity, and a minerally savouriness. There is a great combination of elegance and power in its texture, length and drive.
